Description
This paper chooses the question “Social responsibility. Do you think values-based management is just a ‘do-gooder’ ploy? Explain your answer” for the essay. The reason this question stands out among the rest of the questions is that the question addresses the age old business practices of making profits and the contemporary business practices of giving a portion of profits back to society. In the purist business theories spending on socialist responsibilities are liability to the company. However, the modern management tries to give ‘human’ face to the organization and try to attract better skilled employees and more clients by banking on their ethical practices and meeting corporate social responsibility. The paper discusses the issues related to corporate social responsibility such as regulation corporate social power, the real motivation behind corporate social responsibility programs, the relationship between corporate social responsibility and professional ethical standards etc. The paper tries to arrive at a conclusion as to what should be the real motivation behind corporate social responsibility and the accepted level of corporate social responsibility.
