Description

Human health probably starts much earlier than we think. Early childhood is the period in human life when most of the neuro-motor skills, speech, hearing and understanding, early learning, understanding of the surroundings and a sense of belonging are developed. As an infant a child is just a reflection of the mother’s care. However, when the baby grows from infancy into early childhood it is exposed to the world outside of mother’s care and complete dependency. Unlike adults children are very receptive and susceptible to the environment they live in. It is therefore important to understand as to how parents and early childhood care centers provide atmosphere that is conducive to healthy growth of children. The author of this essay works in an early childhood care center catering to infants between 0 to 2 years. While working in the early childhood care center the author of this essay has come to understand the sensitive nature of infants and as to how they respond to human emotions. Caring for children is not about just meeting the physical needs but also emotional needs. The essay attempts to understand the wellness of children on the six dimensional framework of health proposed by Donatella (2006, pg 6). The essay also attempts to view these dimensions from the work setting of this author. The essay finally makes recommendations to the childcare center as to how it can improve its approaches to the wellness of children by adopting newer and effective methods.
