Antibodies to influenza nucleoprotein cross-react with human hypocretin receptor 2 by Steinman L, Ahmed S, Volkmuth W, Duca J, Corti L, Pallaoro M et al
Description
This article seeks to provide information about sleep disorder narcolepsy and demonstrates its association with Pandemrix vaccinated subjects. As defined in the study, it is a chronic disorder from which a patient suffers from excessive daytime sleepiness and is associated with cataplexy or sudden muscle weakness due to strong emotional stimuli. It was observed that as a result of loss of hypothalamic cells, neuropeptide hypocretin (HCRT) or orexin remains deficient in the cerebrospinal fluid, thereby causing narcolepsy-cataplexy cases. The authors argued that this disorder is connected to the dysregulation of receptor pathway of hypocretin ligand-hypocretin receptor and HLA-DQB1*0602 haplotype. Moreover, the article highlighted some of the cases where it was observed that after the initiation of European AS03-adjuvanted A(H1N1)pdm09 vaccines, the narcolepsy cases has been increased to a certain extent.
