Description

Critical thinking can be said to be a major skill for judging the result of what one learns all the way through his journey. A cross disciplinary skill which has significance in college and employment as well is what Common Code State Standards states critical thinking to be. Critical thinking is explained as a reflective way of judging what can be done or what is to be believed (Facione, 2000). It includes the skills of argument analysis, drawing of conclusions using deductive or inductive reasoning, evaluating or reviewing, and decision making or problem solving. Within a given topic it is necessary to possess background knowledge but it is not enough to enable critical thought. Critical thinking includes dispositions as well as cognitive skills. The dispositions are considered as attitudes or habits of mind and includes inquisitiveness, flexibility, open and fair-mindedness, a wish for being well informed, an inclination to seek explanation, and a respect for and eagerness to entertain varied points of view (Lai, 2011).
Critical thinking develops one’s personality a lot and helps an individual in making decisions and having clarity of mind for utilizing the strengths held so that the weaknesses that exist can be triumphed over for better opportunities in life. Kallet explains critical thinking as a purposeful method for enhancing ones thoughts and ideas beyond his automatic, usual and routine process of thinking. It is a process that makes the use of a structure and a tool set (Kallet, 2014). There are several benefits related to critical thinking. It provides with an apparent understanding of the issues that occurs due to certain situations and makes more rapid and accurate inferences and worthy decisions. Chances and prospects can be recognized and a developed answer and explanation for the same can be achieved. Mistakes can also be avoided if thought critically. It also proves advantageous in wiping out the dead ends at a premature stage through apposite strategies that have been thought out.
