Description

In this paper, Rheumatoid Arthritis has been discussed which has been first recognized in the year 1800 by Dr Augustin Jacob Landré-Beauvais a French physician. It has been observed that the name itself had been coined by Dr Alfred Baring Garrod (British rheumatologist) in the year 1859. On the other hand, as per the resources it has been observed that this disease appears to have been identified in the paintings of the 16th-century’s. This became evident from the paintings which displayed image with hands deformed with the disease. Since ancient times this disease has been plaguing the humankind and this has got revealed from another source. A condition that has been described and explained on Ebers Papyrus near around 1500 BC is nothing different from rheumatoid arthritis. On the other hand it has been clearly noticed in the studies of G. Elliot that this disease RA was a prevalent disease even in Egypt. From a different source, it has been observed that RA was coined in 1940 by Camrose. Hence it is evident that there is an argument regarding the discovery and coining of the disease (US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health Search database, 2007)
