The health of ecosystems that we live in is crucial to our own health and well being. Urbanization, globalization, deforestation, global warming, climatic shifts etc. are cause irreversible damage to the ecological systems. The outbreak of Cryptococcus gattii in the western regions of Canada is the result of this ecological imbalance. This paper analyses the origin, behavior and diseases caused by the fungus. The paper analyses the outbreak with traditional agent, host and environment triad model. The paper also tries to understand the root causes that might have caused the outbreak. The paper then compares the efficacy of agent, host and environment model with ecosystem model solution to the issue.
