Description

Considering that the area of San Miguel District is poor and underdeveloped with low cash incomes of people living in this region, the Small Industries Board has planned the project to establish a cooperative that will help in producing bottled pickles and fruit jam. It has been observed that the families mostly consume all the fruits and vegetables or sell it in the local market. As a result they live at a near subsistence level. Nevertheless, the board members also identified that in a nearby city, Palomino, there is a good market for high quality fruit products and pickled vegetables. Moreover, fresh fruits, traditional pickles and bottled jams are also very popular. Keeping this in mind, the officials intended to construct and operate a small jam and pickle bottling enterprise in the San Miguel town. More particularly, this enterprise will be established in the town which has good access to both villages of the district as well as to the Palomino City. At the same time, the location will be such that accessibility to water supplies, electric power, and sewerage facilities are also available. The prime objectives of this project is to provide employment to at least 30 people who still depend only on casual work. The target is to upgrade the standard of living of these people who currently make $200 a year, internationally $1 a day. The project also aims to create and operate this small enterprise successfully by serving urban markets as well. If it becomes successful then it is expected to open more branches elsewhere in the District.
