Description
The supply strategy of an organization has become increasingly important with the growing complexity of other business related functions. The term, strategy, itself gives a hint of a range of activities associated with the process while earlier it merely meant clerical functions that ensured short – term supplies were catered to. The process has grown both in size, by reaching out to a number of functions of the company and in complexity so as to increase the efficiency of the entire process. The main reason for this change is a change in the outlook associated with the process itself. It has emerged from a business enabling function to a proactive process that has the potential to directly influence the efficiency of the core function of the company. This is similar to developments in other fields of management such as an improvement in the application of organizational behaviour so as to create a win – win situation for both employers and employees. Therefore, it would be extremely interesting to examine the various strategic issues facing the Supplier Selection and Management (SSM) activities of an organization (Monczka et al. 2010).
