This paper answers the following questions - - Question 1
- You receive an Email from your Leading and Managing People tutor at Majan College that says: “We are organising a debate on the topic that ‘Today's managers must be leaders’ and we would like you to take part. You can choose whether you would like to support the motion or oppose it, but either way please let us have a note about the points you will make and the evidence you will produce to support whichever position you have taken.”
- Write a reasoned and helpful response.

- A recent article quoting Professor Higgs (Southampton University) says that:
- “Far too many companies work on the basis that money motivates. But money is not a motivator …. that is not what employees are there for.”
- To what extent would you agree or not with this statement? Produce a constructive response, drawing on research and other sources of evidence-based argument.

- ‘Organisations are in a perpetual state of change. This is because of constant external pressures and the need to innovate and adapt to new demands and circumstances. To survive and thrive, businesses have to grow. They must develop new products, expand into new markets, re-organise, re-engineer, introduce new technology and change working methods and practices.’ (Watson and Gallagher, 2005:298).
- a) Drawing upon examples from your own organisation (or any other named organisation) critically evaluate the extent to which each of the six factors above has brought about change.
- b) Use the Force Field Analysis model to critically evaluate what motivates change in your organisation and how resistance to change can be overcome.

- With reference to any known group/team theories explain how you would develop effective group/team relationships and performance in an organisation, also making clear the advantages this might provide.

- You receive an Email from a cousin who has just started an MBA course:
- ‘I need your help in sorting out my thinking. We have been following a course in Managing and Leading People. It is being said to us that this is not a subject like Financial Management or Quantitative Methods in Business, but I am not convinced. Are there really no right or wrong answers so far as the management and leadership of people is concerned?’
- Formulate a constructive and helpful response, incorporating evidence-based argument to support your views.
