Description

Logistics management is the management of flow of materials or goods from the point of origin to the point of consumption and in some cases to the point of disposal (Lambert, Stock & Ellram, 2006). According to Council of Logistics Management, IL, logistics management is the process of planning, implementing and controlling effective flow and temporary storage of goods and service from the point of origin to the point of consumption conforming to customers’ requirements (Stock & Lambert, 2001). On the other hand, supply chain management or SCM is the management of the flow of materials, information and funds from suppliers to component producers, to assemblers, to distributors and finally to customers (Johnson & Pyke, 1999). Sometimes it also includes return of used products to the point of origin for recycling. Well, as we see the definitions of both logistics management and supply chain management are almost identical. This article analyses the similarities and disparities between the supply chain management and logistics management.
