Description

The rapid growth of industries in the 20th century and a huge population working in these industries has led to the debate of ensuring the safety of the workers in the different industries. After the joint effort of International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1950 governments across the world have taken initiatives to maintain the occupational health and safety standards. The workers are at risk when they are exposed to hazardous substances or unsafe work practices at the work place. Specific standards have been set by the governments for the industries to maintain regarding the handling and disposal of hazardous substances at the work place.
This report is a detailed study of the hazardous substances management program of a battery manufacturer which will be addressed as “Resolution Battery Co” from here on (company name kept confidential). Resolution Battery Co’s main product is lead-acid batteries. It uses lead in the manufacture of its batteries. Lead is a naturally occurring element which has many harmful effects on people and animals. The report critically analyses the hazardous substance management program of Resolution Battery Co and also designs a management control system for the purchase, handling and disposal of lead.
