This essay is based on the following requirement -
Assume you were a Civil War widow. On the day that your town dedicates its Civil War monument write an entry in your diary. [If your town has no memorial, or the dedication is too recent, then just choose a date any time after the end of the Civil War.] In your entry describe what town life was like during the war. What did the war cost the town in lives and suffering as well as money? What do you think caused this war? Conclude with whether you think your loss was worthwhile.
