Description

The concept of aviation started in late 1700s with a hot air balloon designed by Montgolfier brothers (Azbug & Larrabae, 2005, p. 26). Then the human powered rigid aircrafts came in to existence, which was manufactured by German company, Zeppelin. The Zeppelin aircrafts few hundred miles and dominated the industry back then but its popularity diminished with Hindenburg accident, which killed 36 people (Azbug & Larrabae, 2005, p. 33). This ended the era of lighter than air concept in making of aircrafts and the heavier than air concept was introduced by Sir George Cayley, who at times is addressed as Father of Aviation (Grant, 2007, p. 28). Sir Cayley was the first to identify and establish relationship between four aerodynamics forces of flight, which are weight, lift, drag and thrust. He was the first to build a human-carrying glider (Azbug & Larrabae, 2005, p. 29).
