- Assignment Specification
This module follows the action learning principle. As such, the assessment is designed with
a specific aim, to give you an opportunity to reflect on the application of the studied concepts
of Strategic Management into your own employment, business or research activity. The
assessment is, therefore, based on a case study of your own choice from the following
options:
An organisation of which you are an employee, intern or trainee.
A corporate client, supplier or partner of your organisation.
Your own business or potential business.
A for-profit or not-for-profit business project, which you are involved in
A research project, which you intend to develop as a central part of your dissertation.
When selecting the case study, consider the assignment as a process allowing you to derive
immediate professional advantage from mastering and putting into practice the theories of
Strategic Management.
For your chosen case, your assignment is to provide a Strategy Development Report
(SDR). SDR should be guided by the strategic management process and should make
strategic recommendations for the future direction of the organisation giving regard to how
what the organisation might need to do to enable implementation of the recommendations.
Where the strategy of the organisation is known, you can evaluate the choices that have
been made by the organisation and offer alternatives if appropriate. You should critically
evaluate your recommendations highlighting how your options and subsequent choices
might be different should the organisation operate within a different industry or was larger /
smaller than the organisation that you are basing your assignment on.
