Topic:
Select a place of business or activity, eg workplace, recreation centre, church
or temple etc., in which to conduct a review of their compliance with the
relevant OHS legislation. (Ensure you gain appropriate permissions from
management before undertaking.)
If your workplace is large, narrow your focus to either one particular area (eg
office area, mobile equipment workshop, etc.) or one particular section of
legal compliance (eg workplace representation, confined spaces, etc.).
You may like to use an audit tool or inspection checklist, which can be
included with your submission. Your tool or checklist should comply with the
legislation that is relevant to the area of the business or activity, and there
must be evidence of this (ie your checklist should make reference to the
specific parts of the Act, Regulations, etc.).
Develop a short presentation addressed to the manager of your place of
business or activity based on your findings. At the end of the presentation
the manager needs to have a good understanding of:
What OHS law/s are applicable to their place of business or activity,
as well as an understanding of the legal framework in general (ie the
roles of an Act, Regulation, Codes of Practice, etc.).
Why OHS compliance is required and essential to the business’
viability. Make specific references to parts or sections of the relevant
legislation, including penalties for non-compliance. Also include other
advantages of compliance, and disadvantages of non-compliance, to
their place of business or activity besides legal factors.
Your findings as to areas of compliance and non-compliance with the
respective OHS legislation. Be sure to refer to the specific parts or

sections of the relevant Act, Regulations, Codes of Practice,
Standards etc.
Your recommendations as to how the business can achieve OHS
legal compliance.
