- The Assignment Task:
The purpose of this assignment is to undertake a critical review of literature in relation to key themes in
Strategic Business and Management. A literature review is a critical analysis of published sources on a
particular topic. It is an assessment of the literature and provides a summary, classification, comparison and
evaluation. Undertaking a critical review of literature is a key component for postgraduate study. It allows you
to demonstrate the depth of your knowledge and understanding, highlight your ability to challenge, question,
compare and contrast and analyse a range of theories and concepts in relation to your topic.
It is important that you demonstrate that you are able to evaluate and critically analyse what you are reading.
As a post graduate business student, it is essential that you demonstrate up-to-date knowledge regarding
critical business issues and that you can reach evidence-based conclusions in your writing.
The task: is to undertake a Critical Literature Review in relation to key themes in Strategic Business and
Management that being introduced in this module within the context of International Business. Choose one
of the following topics below for your essay:
Leadership in the 21st century and strategic development of organisations.
Leading innovation and strategic development of organisations in the 21st century.
Leadership for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability in the 21st century.
Once you choose a topic, you must write a 2,000-word research essay (+/-10%). Remember your final
reference list, cover page, list of tables, list of figures and list of appendices and appendices are not included.
Using headings, you should introduce your topic, then critically evaluate your research sources, comparing and
contrasting ideas to summarise key themes and identify new theories based on your research. Finally, you
should synthesise and add a conclusion to summarise what you have found. (The assignment template will be
provided). A Critical Literature Review is a research-based essay requires you to identify, select and analyse the
research on the key themes and to critically discuss the implications of the research in relation to real world
situations.
