- You are required to conduct a CR assessment to define to what extent a particular firm is
implementing CSR in business. Accordingly, you will need to communicate with several
firms and agree with one on conducting a CSR assessment for them. Many firms are already
implementing CSR in their activities without necessarily naming them as such. To avoid
miscommunication, you should provide a broad CSR definition to establish common grounds
with whom you are connected.
Your assessment should at least include but not necessarily limited to the following areas:
1. To what extent is there an established CSR policy/strategy?
2. To what extent CSR is visible in the organization? Is there a CSR officer with clear job
description? What relationships does s/he have with other business divisions?
3. Is there a CSR vision? If yes, what it is? How known it is to stakeholders?
4. Who are the firm’s stakeholders? To what extent does the firm keep them engaged? How?
5. What are some of the examples of CSR good practices, if any? What are the benefits? To
what extent are CSR good practices rewarded? Give examples to illustrate. 6. Is there an Ethics code for the firm? Is ethics training provided for all employees? Is there a
code of conduct for suppliers?
7. Is there an anonymous whistle-blowing procedure available to all stakeholders to reinforce
CSR policy (Ethics helpline)?
8. To what extent does the firm uphold the elimination of discrimination in respect of
employment and occupation? Give examples.
9. To what extent does the firm encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally
friendly technologies? Give examples.
10. What measures does the firm have against corruption in all its forms, including extortion
and bribery?
11. What are the CSR-related problems and/or challenges that the firm faces, if any? What
plans does the firm have to solve the problems or overcome the challenges?
12. To what extent does the firm intend to integrate CR concerns – social, environmental, and
economic – into a company’s values, culture, operations at all levels of an organization?
How?
