1. Find and read: Porter, M. (2008) ‘The Five Competitive Forces that Shape Strategy’, Harvard Business Review, January: 78-93.
2. Undertake a Porter ‘Five Forces Analysis’ for an industry with which you are familiar (30 marks).
3. Strategically, which are the most important forces for organisations in this industry to consider, and why? (30 marks)
4. Critically evaluate the wider contribution of Michael Porter to the field of strategic management (i.e. beyond the 5 forces framework to include his other main contributions, such as ‘generic strategies’, ‘the value chain’, etc.).
