Description
The House on Mango Street was written by Mexican American writer Sandra Cisneros, in the year 1984. The story deals with a young girl and her growing up in Chicago. The major themes of the story revolve around her quest for a better life and the fulfillment of her promise to come back to everything she is leaving behind. This novel has been acclaimed critically and also has become New York Times Bestseller. The House of Mango Streets is comprised of vignettes, which are neither entirely poems nor stories. The book has been constructed in a combined genre, where the mantle of poetry has been pulled and mixed with autobiography and fiction.
