Description
In the original paper, Wakefield along with other 12 co-authors claimed to have investigated a consecutive series of 12 children from the Royal Free Hospital and School of Medicines with chronic enterocolitis and regressive development disorder. In this study, it has been said by Wakefield that the MMR vaccine can be a reason for autism and regressive development disorder. It has been claimed by the author that the parents of the children associated with the loss of acquired skills, which also incorporates language, with the vaccination of MMR. It has been reported by the author that vaccine is solely responsible for the onset of the development regression and gastrointestinal diseases. This turned out to be a landmark study after the publication of this particular paper. This paper by Wakefield turned many of the parents across the globe against the MMR (measles mumps rubella) vaccine. The reason behind this was that the parents thought that there is a link between autism and the vaccination. The parent across the world developed an insight that this particular vaccine can cause autism. Even at present a debate regarding the Wakefield paper still persists. A lot of controversies are still doing the round across the world.
