    In terms of the external environment, the major opportunities and threats are identified applying PESTEL and Porter's 5 Forces frameworks and a market overview.     2. Using the Duncan Moriaty IMC Mini Audit in the text (p197), select a company (Organisation) and a product or service from that company. Investigate / Analyse the communications (of all types) from that company or organisation to a specific target audience.

    In the report you will need to compliment the Audit with examples and samples of what they are currently doing to communicate with the identified audience. (examples, catalogues, web links, ads, letters, viral communications, chalk art – anything ! ( ANY other piece of communication and promotional material)

    This anaylsis will need to be or can be conducted from an external or even customer perspective given that is unlikely that you will have good detail of the company’s internal operations. (this allows you to look at a company/organisation you don’t work for but may aspire to know something about - a competitor even – it allows for a more objective look at the organisation.) You might want to substitute the word THEIR for OUR in the Mini audit tool (P197) to help achieve this !

One such example is that of Sona Castings Private Limited, India. The company, without proper organizational structure and without marketing efforts is flourishing thanks to the high demand for steel castings and steel ingots in the market. The company is an established brand among the local buyers and suppliers due to its reliability. The company does not have a marketing department and yet the organization receives orders over the phone and castings and ingots are delivered depending upon the availability of the stock. The company does not advertise at all. However, the current high demand may not last long. And if the organization has to survive amid stiff competition in view of possible decreased demand in future, it has to make some fundamental changes to the organizational structure. There is also displeasure among junior workers due to dominance of long term serving senior workers. Given the volatile nature of Indian workers and their unions, the discontent might translate into strikes and lockouts.
