Smoking is known to one of the preventable cause of death and disease in Australia. Though the percentage of the number of smokers is reduced there are around 3 million smokers who smoke regularly on daily basis and are in to a long term addiction (TobaccoinAustralia, 2013). Also, it has the negative impact of passive smoking on the non-smokers. The federal and state/territory government have introduced various policies to curb smoking among all the ages. Every state and territory has adopted different policies for smoke free environment and has different organization and industry groups supporting in forming the policies and getting them implemented. This has encouraged many people to support the policies and contribute towards making their region smoke free. The paper discusses the issues leading to the formation of anti-smoking policy and also discusses the contribution of the key stakeholders regarding the issue and how they influence the decisions made to implement policies.
