A case study of Sol Melia and requisite marketing strategy of Best Western Hotel in context to its findings
This report attempts to analyse SolMelia thoroughly and apply the findings to the Best Western hotel critically. Through the case study of Sol Melia, pointers for development of the future scope of Best Western Hotel have been sought. Sol Melia is the largest hotel operator in Spain (it was established in 1956) and a leader in the market. A look at its history has been beneficial to investigate into the pros and cons or the strengths and opportunities of the establishment in the market. In the face of Helms-Burton law Sol Melia came in a threatening position but looking at its strengths, its concern towards environment has been very strong. The result can be easily seen through its 2007 performance when Sol Melia exceeded its objective of raising an annual amount of 100 million Euros in revenues through asset sales. Sol Melia’s success can be credited to its excellent communication and relations that it maintains as well as to its easy adaptation and adoption of latest technology (SAPR3 technology). Luxury Destinations and Hospitality Business Solutions have been identified as the key marketing strategies for Best Western Hotel (BWH). Development of these strategies requires pinpointing of increased and more diverse accommodation offers and maximization of customer satisfaction through customer relationship management. The projected outcome of the implementation of these strategies is indeed positive. It not only promises to add value to the hotel reputation but also strengthen its base thereby, increasing the profits. In the face of cut throat competition, it is essential to adopt these forward looking strategies for the hotel. Analysis of the Anglo French Concorde project to design and build a supersonic airliner
When the last flight of the iconic Anglo Frech Concorde flew in 2003, it signaled the end of the most adventurous and colorful era in the Civil Aviation history. The Aerospatiale-BAC Concorde aircraft was a turbojet-powered supersonic passenger airliner, a supersonic transport (SST). It was a product of an Anglo-French government treaty, combining the manufacturing efforts of Aérospatiale and the British Aircraft Corporation (Kenneth Owen, 2001). First flown in 1969, Concorde entered service in 1976 and continued for 27 years. The Concorde SST project was a joint collaboration between the UK and the French governments. The project was executed by a consortium with members such as the British Aircraft Corp. and Aerospatiale. These were the companies that had designed the conceptualized the aircraft. But the respective governments had to intervene since they ran short of funds to execute the project. Although, Concorde SST was the most successful and colorful chapter of Aviation, which ended in 2003, the project days were not satisfactory as far as the performance of the project consortium was concerned. The project was marred by delays and spiraling costs. The budget escalated many times the initial estimate. The project duration was extended to fourteen year from the initially planned four years. Although, there were a couple of external influences that caused the delay or spiraling budget, most of the reasons to the delay and increased costs could be attributed to inefficient management practices. The paper analyses as to what went wrong the caused enormous delay and huge increase in costs and finds out reasons that caused them. The paper also does a stakeholder analysis to find out the extent of influence of each of the stakeholder involved in the project. The paper makes recommendations as to how the problems could have been fixed and the delays and spiraling budget could have been avoided.
Analysis of the famous James Hardie Case Study with key focus on Corporate Social Responsibility
Over the past two decade the world has witnessed increased globalization, deregulation, and privatization. Private enterprise today plays an important role in all sphere of life. The challenges facing society today such as environmental climate change, enforcement of labor standards and basic human rights cannot be solved without cooperation of private sector. Social welfare is seeing reduced funding by the government; private corporations are expected to contribute in the improvement of social welfare of citizens and to act in an ethical manner. They are expected to contribute more towards in protection of human rights, environment and maintain social cohesion. This concept is today being known as corporate social responsibility (CSR) and much attention has been paid into this (Carroll, 1979; Utting, 2005; Luo. X. & Bhattacharya C.B, 2006) CSR is an attempt by the company to attain balance between the interests of all its stakeholders and it should be aligned with its strategic objectives and operations. Milton Friedman (1970) was staunch supporter of the belief in primacy of firm’s self-interest before engaging in CSR. Hence from utilitarian point of view, it is unrealistic to expect corporations to commit resources for social well being in CSR activities since there is no direct return. However, Carroll, 1979; Waddock, 2004; Matten and Crane, 2005 etc belonged to contrarian school of thought and demanded selfless corporate commitment for betterment of society. And they expect corporations to go beyond charity and donations etc. The middle path towards this dilemma is for the corporations to engage in CSR activity in such ways that it is designed around the business. This is to bring sustainability in the CSR activities which demands that there are benefits from companies CSR activities. Key and Popkin, 1998 etc have mentioned that this can be achieved via interlinking CSR with business strategy and integrating it with the day-to-day operations in activities such as corporate image building. With this background, we will look into the case at hand James Hardie case study is analysed while answering the following 2 questions – • Using CSR Framework, explore broadly the concepts of social responsibility evident in James Hardie case. In doing so, discuss responsibilities to shareholders and stakeholders such as consumers, employees, community and environment in both the domestic and international communities. • Do you think the government ought to require the companies to report on issues of Corporate social responsibility. What implications would such regulation have on the James Hardie case.

– Road is the oldest and essential medium of human transportation and travel. Even today road networks constitute major transport medium in any region of the world. A nation’s economy depends upon how efficient is its surface transport network, which require good roads and inter connectivity between roads. Major cities are connected by expressways to cut down the travel time and to ensure uninterrupted travel. The USA by far has the largest and most efficient road network in the world (MapXL, 2009). India has the second largest road network in the world (MapXL, 2009). This paper discusses a brief history of road construction technology and methods. The paper also discusses the current methods used in road construction. The paper then discusses ‘The Golden Quadrilateral Project’ in India that links four major metros of the nation.
Project analysis of Mumbai Airport and Mass Redevelopment Scheme
Mumbai Airport and Mass Redevelopment Scheme contract is about the up gradation of existing facilities at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, India such as air traffic control, personnel movement, offices, logistical support activities, commercial activities and so on. The contract has been awarded to Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), a consortium comprising of GVK Industries Limited and Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) was selected to undertake the entire mass redevelopment scheme. Mechanical and civil works have been subcontracted to Leighton India Limited. The project report is complete with all the information such as project scope, objectives, financials etc. However, it lacks sufficient human resource planning, which is crucial to the success of the project. Although, the stake holding companies share different work responsibilities, there is a need for a centralized team comprising of managers from all the stake holding companies. The project plan also lacks other aspects of human resource planning such as the number of manpower required for the project, responsibility assignment matrix, reporting schedule and modes, the duration and time the specific manpower required in the course of project execution etc. Another shortfall of the project planning is that it fails to provide a single point of contact or a single node that is wholly responsible for the project such as either the ACSA Project Manager or the GVK Project Manager. The paper also recommends the project team to have a single project manager responsible for both commercial activities and operations.

The following is a reflection of my stint with ABC Constructions Pte. Ltd., a Singapore based construction corporation, which has a branch office in Melbourne, Australia. It is a large sized company having operations in the Asia Pacific region. It had recently opened its operations in Australia. The nature of the work the company undertook was urban infrastructure constructions such as flyovers, underpasses, metro rail tunnels etc. I worked there as senior human resource executive. He team of workers moves with the company operations to different nations where the company has bagged huge infrastructure construction projects. Although, the company hires local workers too, this core team of employees which was involved in activities such as heavy equipment operation, earth mover operation etc. My job was to interact with these low class employees and look after their needs such as food, shelter, travel arrangements, visa preparations, orienting them to the new nation’s culture and work responsibilities etc. I had a team of three executives to assist me. I would report to the Human Resource Manager, who was handling more than a thousand employees that were directly or indirectly employed by the company.
Research Proposal on earthquake and how to protect buildings from physical damage using the example of Bouygues Company
Earthquakes have now become a worldwide problem wherein the countries are trying to seek opinions to curb this problem by taking required action. The earthquakes are not just restricted to one part of the globe but all are equally at risk. After the two greatest earthquakes in US history and in Japan, has opened the eyes of many and has called for taking serious actions to bring this issue to a standstill. With the advancement in science and technology, we are now in a position to answer some of the most difficult questions as when the earthquake will occur, where it will occur and at what magnitude. Due to this advancement various science and engineering tools can be used to reduce the effects of earthquake. It is well said “earthquakes do not kill people, buildings do”. The objective of our study is development of earthquake suspension to protect homes, buildings and bridges from any kind of damage during the event of earthquake. An earthquake can hamper the foundation of any building in the form of crack that develop on the walls or spilt at the time of shaking. This may result in huge economic loss and damage to human life and can also take toll on one’s life. The two greatest earthquakes in USA, in Japan and regions near the sea have taught hard lessons to people all around the globe that no region is safe and all are prone to earthquake. Special actions should be taken to protect oneself from any kind of damage. Architects and engineers should take special action to protect world from hazards of earthquake. Those buildings are worst hit that have poor building standards and deficient in earthquake resistant design. The motive of this paper is to protect building from structural damage and protect life by ensuring that the building does not crumple and minimize loss of life. The company in study is construction based known as Bouygues Company. The company stands at the 2nd position in UK in terms of construction. The overall protection from earthquake can be maintained if the building, bridges etc are well protected, designed as per earthquake suspension needs and the company in study bears that character. So, the construction companies should set the standards of the buildings high so that they don’t damage with a shake of an earthquake. It lays down special attention for the architects to lay good foundation that prevents building from shaking. The product here is earthquake resistant which is supposed to be installed in all the buildings, bridges to prevent any damage caused due to the harm from the earthquake. In this paper, the research constructed highlights the following points: a. damages, destruction caused by the earthquake b. how can this be prevented c. Making of earthquake suspension – proof building d. How good are earthquake suspension to prevent the above These are some of the questions will be addressed in this paper. The paper highlights the need of the earthquake suspension and how have they attained success.
